Khufu:
Khufu was one of the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt. He lived from around 2575 BCE to 2465 BCE. Khufu was the son of Snefru and Hetepheres, and the father of Khafre and Redjedef.
Khufu's Life and Reign:
- Khufu was a royal member of the Fourth Dynasty in Ancient Egypt, eventually succeeding his father Snefru, as pharaoh in 2589 BC.
- Khufu was first married to Meritites I, who was likely his half-sister. Together, he and Meritites had at least five children together, including the Crown Prince, Kawab. Khufu later married Henutsen, with whom he had at least two additional children.
- Some modern historians believe that Khufu reigned for around 26 years. Others, however, argue that Khufu may have reigned somewhere between 34 and 46 years.
- After an estimated reign of at least 26 years, Khufu died in 2566 B.C.
- During his reign, Khufu built and was eventually buried in the Great Pyramid of Giza, which is located on the Giza Plateau in Egypt. The Great Pyramid of Giza was once the tallest structure in the known world and was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
- Khufu's second son, Djedefre, would succeed him in 2566 B.C.
