The primary reason wind occurs is due to the pressure gradient force, which means that air attempts to eliminate small differences in atmospheric pressure by flowing from high to lower pressure. It is simultaneously acted upon by the Coriolis force and by friction, which changes the direction and magnitude of the wind vector.
