It is the main way we can gain knowledge about events from more than 5,000 years ago since people only began writing around that time. It is also an important complement to historical records. Archaeological finds give us information about what kind of technologies a people had at their disposal at a particular point in time and it also helps us know about how those technologies were deployed.
