The planet Earth is surrounded by a cloud of gases called the atmosphere. Earth's atmosphere is mostly made of up nitrogen, which comprises about 78 percent of the atmosphere. Oxygen makes up 21 percent and several other gases contribute to the remaining one percent of the atmosphere.
