Celiac disease is serious immune disorder that affects primarily the small intestine when consuming gluten. In these patients, gluten interferes with the absorption of other nutrients from food by damaging the villi (used for absorption of nutrients) present in the small intestine. The disease can go asymptomatic for a while but it can eventually lead to malnourishment.
