What is epiglottitis?


The epiglottis is the structure in the back of the mouth that keeps solids and liquids from going into the trachea. When you begin the act of swallowing, the epiglottis covers the trachea. Most people have swallowed liquid too quickly and had some go into the trachea. This causes an instant cough reaction.
