Volvox was first discovered 1700 by Antonie van Leeuwenhoek. He was a scientist known as one the first microscopist and microbiologist. Volvox is considered to be a protist. Protist don't form a traditional group or clade. Scientist have included in this group organisms that don't fit in any other category. They can be either microscopic or macroscopic. Protists are eukaryotic organism that are formed by a group of cells that don't constitute any tissue.
