Formation of Igneous Rocks:

Igneous rocks form as hot, liquefied rock begins to cool. They are classified by the method of their formation. The other two types of rocks, sedimentary and metamorphic, are also classified by how they form. Sedimentary rocks form from particles of other rocks that cement together while metamorphic rocks are physically changed from other rocks by extended periods of time exposed to heat and pressure.
