Christopher Columbus (1451-1506) was an Italian who worked mainly for the Spanish Monarchs, Ferdinand II and Isabella I, as an explorer and navigator. He made four voyages from Europe to the Americas, but contrary to popular belief, he did not discover North America. Instead, he landed in the Caribbean, South America, and Central America. It was because of his journeys that other European countries began to explore and colonize the rest of the world.
