What countries were involved in the War on Terror?
Question:
What countries were involved in the War on Terror?
Collective Defense:
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was formed in 1949, in response to the threat of the Soviet Union. NATO has gradually expanded since its founding to include several states in Eastern Europe. One of the principle components of NATO is the concept of collective defense. Collective defense refers to the idea that an attack on one state, is an attack on all of the states in the alliance. As a result, if a member state is attacked, it is the responsibility of the other member states to come to their aid. The concept of collective defense is covered by Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which created NATO.
