Under the circulatory system, the liver plays several vital roles. It is involved in the filtration and processing of many compounds, such as drugs, contained in the blood. It is also involved in the creation of clotting factors which is an important component of blood.

Under the digestive system, the liver also plays an important role in the digestion and processing of materials, such as amino acids, that are absorbed from the small intestine. It is also the organ that produces bile which is important in the digestion of fats coming from the diet.
