Is hairspray bad for the ozone layer?

Question:

Is hairspray bad for the ozone layer?

Ozone Layer Function:

The main function of ozone in the stratosphere is to absorb ultraviolet radiation. Most of the radiation from the Sun is filtered out by this layer of gas and doesn't reach the surface of Earth. This is important because ultraviolet radiation can damage living things.

Answer and Explanation: 1

Hairspray is no longer bad for the ozone layer. In the 1920's aerosols, such as hairspray, were manufactured using a man-made chemical called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Later, in the 1970's scientists realized that CFCs and other fluorinated gases were damaging the ozone layer. The world came together and banned these products to help protect the ozone layer. Today, aerosols and coolants are no longer made with CFCs and thus newly made products do not damage the ozone layer.
