An electrochemical gradient is a gradient of electrochemical potentional that is generated when ions move across a membrane, creating a chemical gradient due to the difference in solute concentration, simultaneously creating an electrical gradient, due to the accumulation of charges on one side of the environment. This creates a gradient wherein a side of a membrane will be of higher concentration, allowing the diffusion of ions from higher concentration, to lower concentration which also drive an electric potential.
