Explain how to balance the number of oxygen and hydrogen atoms while balancing a chemical equation for a redox reaction under basic conditions.
Redox reaction is a reaction in which one reactant is oxidized and another reactant is reduced simultaneously. The chemical equation for a redox reaction can be considered to be sum of two half reaction equations of which one is for oxidation and the other is for reduction process. The balanced chemical equation for a redox reaction can be obtained by first balancing the two half reaction equations individually followed by their addition. This method of balancing a redox reaction is known as half reaction method.
