Oedipus is one of the kings featured in Greek mythology. Oedipus was the king of Thebes and he is the subject of a particular tragedy involving his family. As the myth goes, Oedipus was prophesized to kill his father and marry his mother. By a twisted turn of fate, he would wind up doing these acts unintentionally. The story of Oedipus was used by the playwright Sophocles as the topic of the play entitled Oedipus Rex.
