Draw the Lewis structure for {eq}NH_3 {/eq}.

Question:

Draw the Lewis structure for {eq}NH_3 {/eq}.

Lewis Structure:

Every covalent molecule has some distribution of valence electrons involving the participating atoms. A certain number of valence electrons are shared in the form of covalent bonds, while any electrons remaining are localized on certain atoms as non-bonding (lone) pairs. The Lewis structure describes this arrangement of valence electrons in the molecule. If you want to apply a molecular geometry to the Lewis structure, then you must consider the valence electron distribution around a certain central atom (e.g. oxygen in the water molecule) and apply VSEPR theory to it.
