Does the muscular system do important jobs for the other body systems?
The different organs in the body are organized into body systems that each specialize in the functions that they do. The main body systems in the body are the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, skeletal, excretory, nervous, reproductive, lymphatic and immune, endocrine, integumentary, and muscular systems.
Answer and Explanation: 1
The muscular system has as its main functions the movement of the body and movement of materials inside the body. It also helps us to maintain our balance and posture, and helps us to produce heat within our bodies. In addition, all of the body systems are assisted in one way or another by the muscles of the body.
In the circulatory system, the muscles of the heart and of the arteries help to move the blood through the body. Skeletal muscles outside the veins, in the legs, for example, help to squeeze blood through the veins. In the respiratory system, muscles of the chest wall and the diaphragm, which is a muscle itself, help to move air in and out of the body. In the digestive system, muscles in the walls of the stomach and intestines help to move food and to physically digest it. Movement of the body itself helps to move food through the digestive system as well.
In the skeletal system, the body is helped to move by the muscles that are attached to the bones of the body. In the excretory system, ridding the body of wastes is helped by muscles found in the urethra. In the nervous system, the nerves of the body are protected physically by the structures of the muscles of the body. Muscles help the nervous system to communicate, too. The muscles of the face, for example, allow us to make different expressions and other muscles help us to be able to speak.
In the reproductive system, muscles help to move both egg and sperm cells. In the immune system, physical exercise of the muscles helps to enhance immunity. In the endocrine system, the hormones are moved through the body using the circulatory muscles. And even the integumentary system is benefited by the muscular system; when our muscles are used, blood supply increases to the skin as well as to the muscles, and this helps to improve the health of the skin.
We can see, then, that the body systems work together in many different ways, and the muscular system is very important to all the other systems of the body.
