Latent Heat and Heat Capacity

When energy is added/removed to a specific substance, the two possible outcomes are (1) an increase/decrease in temperature and (2) a phase change. The former response is intuitive since adding/taking energy increases/decreases the average motion of the particles. In the latter case, the energy causes the particles to undergo a phase transition, e.g., freeze or boil.
