Cyclotron:

A cyclotron is a device that rapidly accelerates charged particles or ions. It was created in 1934 by E.O. Lawrence and M.S. Livingston to study nuclear structure. The cyclotron uses electric and magnetic fields to boost the energy of the charged particles. Cross fields are referred to as such because the two fields are perpendicular to one another.
