The Nephron:

The nephron is the functional unit of the kidney, responsible for urine formation. Each kidney contains over one million nephrons. The nephron consists of the renal corpuscle, which captures substances filtered out of the blood, and the renal tubule, which then resorbs many of these substances, concentrates the urine, and secretes more waste products into it. Urine is then passed into the collecting ducts, which drain into the renal papillae and out of the kidney.
